I visited the GulfQuest National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico in Mobile a few days ago and found this very interesting! We had our own mail-order brides along the coast here! I thought about doing a book series about them, but it's way earlier than the 1800s and would take tons of research to get it right. So I think I'll just stick with the 1800s for now 😊

As the 1867 construction of the Union Pacific Railway traveled westward, the saloons, gambling institutes and prostitutes of one town were all transported to the new train depot by a flat bed train. This was termed "hell on wheels".

Honeymoons were known to occur from about the 1820s on, though they weren't called honeymoons back then. They were known as bridal tours, wedding tours, or nuptial journeys. It was common practice for the couple's families to accompany them on their bridal tour. Private honeymoons didn't start till around the 1860s.
