This week's historical fact of the 1800s:
Many women saw marriage as a burden. The harsh reality of the early 1800s was that women were pretty much confined to the house. An average of five to seven children kept them busy with endless cooking, cleaning, mending and sewing. If a man was abusive, they were pretty much stuck, as they were dependent upon that man for income.
